La Lune Natural Stone 200 x 60

£118.00

This natural stone is a form of sedimentary slate, a finishing stone in the 12k-15k range which is ideal for use after an 8k. Think of it as an alternative to a Belgian coticule though it has a different feel. The stone requires a slurry produced with a bout included with the stone. These vary in size and appearance. The stone can be used with water or oil (glycerine or mineral oil) with glycerine producing a particularly fine result. Please see full description.

This version is 200 x 60 mm approx. with other sizes available.

Description

The La Lune whetstone, quarried near the French/Belgian border, has a long history and heritage as a natural sharpening stone which has recently been lovingly revived by Nicolas at 1Stone.

The stone itself has been highly polished and is ready to use. The stones are beautifully packaged in tissue wrapped in twine and featuring a wax seal of the moon. They include a written guarantee of authenticity. A pleasure both to receive and to use.

The stone has quite a dense structure so perhaps better for users with a little experience. A beginner might wish to start with its sister stone the Black Shadow. The stone can include colour spots from mineral concentrations but these will not affect its use.

The images show the stone in its wrapper, but the colour of the stone may be seen from the bout.

This version is 200 x 60 mm approx. with other sizes available.
